As teacher and educator, Hilton C. Buley dedicated his career to youth and to the learning process. He received his master's degree in education at Cornell University and took a doctorate in education at Columbia University. Starting as a secondary-school teacher, Buley rose to supervising principal, superintendent of schools, and then state commissioner of education in New Hampshire. He concluded his career in education as president for 17 years of Southern Connecticut State College. He died on January 17, 1987.
