Under the guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Hobart and William Smith Colleges are required to make reasonable accommodations to the known physical limitations of individuals with disabilities.

In November 2007, Hobart and William Smith incorporated accessible design techniques into the HWS Web site so that the pages are accessible to people with physical and visual impairments, including those who need screen readers, those who are color blind and those who can not use a mouse.

All of the pages are written in semantic code, using cascading style sheets. All tables have been removed from the site, except where necessary, and descriptive alt tags have been used. In addition, the site was tested for color blindness and font sizes can be adjusted site-wide. In the coming weeks, the site will be tested with screen readers to determine if there is more that can be done to increase usability.

If you discover aspects of the site that may cause an accessibility problem or have any questions about ADA compliance, please contact us.
