Slate for Student Success
The Dock Timeline
The Dock buildout is currently in the discovery and early development phases. The buildout team is gathering feedback and documenting the wants/needs of our community for this platform, while IT Services works on the backend to set up a test environment in order to demonstrate potential uses. This is a long-term, iterative project.
Below is a tentative timeline for the phased rollout of The Dock; this is subject to change and will evolve as momentum builds on this project. The campus community will be kept abreast of timeline updates.
Discovery: (Jan-Apr)
- Explore Slate functionality
- Review student experience milestones and associated tasks that may be enhanced by online functionality (e.g., major declaration)
- Source feedback from the community
Development: (Apr-Aug)
- Begin The Dock development
-
- Branding
- Establish a test environment
- Determine what a record will contain
-
- Connect platform integrations
- Build out resources
- Recruit focus groups for early testing/feedback
Phase I Implementation: (June-Sep)
The Registrar’s office will be the first users of The Dock. They are excited to bring academic declarations online and safely and securely digitize their document storage. The Office of the Deans will be the second users in the platform.
- Digitize paper records in the Registrar's Office
- Shift certain Registrar Office forms online to electronic completion
- Have a student-facing portal with centralized resources
- Dean's Office establishes use and support for students within The Dock
- Create user documentation and support material
Phase II Implementation: (Aug-Dec)
- Orientation/Welcome Back Communications
- Go live with The Dock student portal
- Iterate, add, and fix student portal functionality
Future Implementation: (2027)
- Phase in Faculty Portal
- Other office/departmental integrations and use
The Dock will be rolled out gradually, with ample communication, training and support.
This phase can also be thought of as the “Dream Big Phase”, a rare opportunity to start with a blank slate and imagine what is possible. Ideas or suggestions for enhancing work, improving the student experience, or fostering more effective collaboration are encouraged and can be shared here.
