NEW HIRE ONBOARDING
Before your First Day
- Ensure you have appropriate identification documents demonstrating your eligibility to work in the United States. You will be required to provide this documentation on your first day of employment, unless you have been instructed to complete it online with HR prior to your first day. HR cannot accept a picture of a document for your I-9 work authorization form, so bring the physical documents
- Confirm your start details with your manager – including information about where you should park, when you should arrive and where your should go when you arrive
- Explore campus using the interactive map
- Learn about your benefits using the HR Benefit webpages or the Benefit Guide to prepare yourself to enroll in your benefits once you begin working at HWS
Your First Day
- Meet with Human Resources to complete work authorization and other required paperwork, if needed. HR will also send you a first day email
- Confirm your first week’s schedule, work hours, PTO policies and any position expectations with your supervisor. Have your supervisor give you an overview of the functional area as well as your physical workspace
- Set up your network accounts and office technology. Contact IT Services (HELPDESK@hws.edu) for assistance and review their new employee webpage
- Meet your new coworkers and other campus community members
- HR will invite benefit-eligible employees to a benefits orientation meeting that will take place during your first or second week of employment
Your First Week (and Beyond)
- New employees are required to complete compliance training within their first week of work. This training is through United Educators and employees will use their HWS credentials to log in
- Some employees may also need to complete additional safety trainings if their role falls under the scope of the Clergy Act. Campus Safety will contact you regarding this training
- Set up a regular one-on-one meeting schedule with your supervisor
- Explore the campus offerings through the Community Events Calendar as you continue to meet people on campus
