Registering for Classes at HWS

The Registrar’s Office will email instructions on how to register for courses when you’re abroad. You will not be at any disadvantage due to your off-campus status. Students abroad are able to register earlier than students on campus to build in a buffer in the event that you have class or an excursion at the time of registration. If you are planning personal travel during registration days for your class, you MUST stay in a location where you will have good internet for your registration time. You may only register for classes for which you have met the pre-requisite(s) and are open to students in your class year. If permission of instructor is required, email the instructor BEFORE registration day, say you are abroad, state your case and ask them to issue the permit. Check that you do not have a financial or administrative hold on your account or you will not be able to register.

HWS Housing Preferences

Fall Students: Residential Education will email all pertinent information about opportunities and procedures for the spring. If you didn’t co-sign, you will be invited to participate in room selection in November for the spring term.

Spring Students: Residential Education will email the housing selection process for rooms on campus for next year. You will be able to participate in the process exactly at the same time and through the same medium as everyone else on campus.

All students: Only rising seniors will be considered for off-campus housing status and you must apply for off-campus approval by the same process as students on campus. Do not sign a lease until you receive written approval from Residential Education!

If you have any questions about registering for housing back on campus, please contact housing@hws.edu.

Returning to Campus and Getting Involved

Your study abroad experience will be transformative and will impact you in a variety of ways – and it is important for you to continue to reflect on and process it even after you return home. Re-entry programming is a hallmark of the HWS approach to study abroad, and the CGE offers a variety of activities and events to help you with your return and to enable you to remain connected to your experiences abroad. Providing opportunities for you to share your experiences helps further our mission to internationalize the HWS campus community.
