11 June 2026 • Alums Terens ’16 to Broadcast World Cup Matches on Fox

Tyler Terens '16 will voice play-by-play for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Sportscaster Tyler Terens '16 has been picked to join Fox Sports' soccer team for its coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which starts on Thursday, June 11. The former Hobart soccer player will be one of the network's play-by-play commentators.

Terens will make his tournament debut with former U.S. Men’s National Team Defender Maurice Edu on Sunday, June 14, when Sweeden takes on Tunisia in Monterrey, Mexico, at 10 p.m. on FS1 and Fox One. In the first week of the tournament, Terens and Edu are also scheduled to broadcast the Canada vs. Qatar game on Thursday, June 18, in Vancouver, Canada, at 6 p.m. Terens will also have the opportunity to call other group stage and knockout stage games during the tournament.

“Eight years ago, I promised myself I would be working the World Cup when it came to North America and I’m so honored to have been selected to help cover the greatest sporting event on the planet,” Terens said.

Terens has spent the last few years as a play-by-play commentator for Major League Soccer on Apple TV. In 2025, he joined Fox Sports as a commentator for the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Terens made his national television debut calling a pair of MLS matches for ESPN in 2022. He is also a co-host for various soccer shows on SiriusXM FC (Ch. 157).

Terens got his start in broadcasting as a senior at Hobart and William Smith, calling basketball and hockey games for campus radio station WHWS. Following graduation, he worked as a commentator for the University of Vermont basketball, the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League, America East TV, IVY League Network, and Patriot League Network.

His broadcasting career kicked into high gear when he was hired by VISTA Worldlink. Headquartered near Miami, the company provides streaming services to a wide-range of clients. Terens called matches from CONCACAF Champions League to Gold Cup to U.S. Open Cup to the USL's Phoenix Rising, all while watching the action on a monitor in a Florida studio.

A four-year letter winner for the Hobart soccer team, Terens was a starter on defense in his final three seasons. He helped the Statesmen win at least 10 games in each of his four seasons, posting a 13-3-2 record as a senior. That year, Terens and his Hobart teammates finished second in the Liberty League with a 5-1-2 record.
