A statue of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell sits on the outskirts of the Quad. In 1849, Blackwell graduated from the medical school of Geneva College (Hobart’s precursor) as the first woman in the country to receive a medical degree. Geneva College was renamed Hobart Free College in 1852 and Hobart College in 1860. -
