Through the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning, HWS Civic Leaders Juliet Holme ’16 and Molly Gorelick ’19 prepare nearly 200 appreciation treats for HWS students who are involved as weekly volunteers in programs such as America Reads, America Counts, Geneva 2020, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Geneva Heroes. The effort is part of National Volunteer Week sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation.

During the competition students are given 15 minutes to explain a significant principle or application of physics. The winner receives a check for $1,000. The Albert Holland Physics Lecture competition and prize were conceived and endowed by Professor Emeritus of Physics Allan M. Russell P'81, P'86.
