First organized in 1999 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith in Allston, Mass., HWS Pride Alliance holds a vigil for the 17th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance in memory of Rita Hester, a trans woman of color murdered the year before.

The Venerable Tenzin Yignyen concludes the sacred practice of creating and dismantling a Tibetan Buddhist sand mandala. Mandalas are created in the tradition of selflessness and non-import, and are therefore disassembled upon completion. They are then offered to the closest body of water for the benefit of marine life, the environment and all sentient beings.

Ross received the prestigious Seamanship Award from the Storm Trysail Club. Ross and his team helped a competitor after they ran aground on a reef in the Indian Ocean and were forced to abandon ship during the Volvo Ocean Race.
