Student Organizations

One Love Foundation
One Love was founded in memory of Yeardley Love, a University of Virginia student who lost her life to relationship violence in 2010. The HWS One Love Club affirms the national foundation's mission to educate people about the difference between an unhealthy and healthy relationship. The One Love Club provides education to the campus community through the facilitation of the Foundation's flagship project, Escalation, and organizes additional events to raise awareness of relationship violence and to promote healthy relationships. If you are interested in joining or learning more about the HWS One Love Club, please email titleix@hws.edu.

Educational Programs

Students can request the following workshops and programs:

Intervene
The Skorton Center for Health Initiatives at Cornell Health, in collaboration with Cornell Interactive Theatre Ensemble, developed the Intervene Bystander Campaign. Intervene is a one hour bystander intervention workshop featuring a 20 minute video of brief filmed scenarios demonstrating ways in which student bystanders can successfully intervene in problematic situations. The Intervene workshop allows students to view the video with others and to engage in a facilitated conversation to reflect upon the attitudes and behaviors that influence the process of intervening as an individual or with assistance. Students will gain an understanding of what scenarios may require intervention and multiple techniques for intervening and seeking assistance.

Affirmative Consent
In this workshop students have the opportunity to discuss what is meant by ‘Affirmative Consent' and the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication throughout sexual activity. Students will gain an understanding of why HWS and other colleges and universities have adopted enthusiastic or ‘Affirmative Consent' as their standard.

Rape Culture is Popular Culture
Using examples of songs, advertisements, and marketing campaigns this workshop focuses on the ways in which various media perpetuates misconceptions of sexual violence and often reinforces problematic gender stereotypes.

Gender-Based Violence Recognition and Response
This program covers the numerous terms and definitions related to gender based violence and increases students' abilities to identify problematic behaviors including those behaviors that would be considered a Sexual Misconduct Policy violation. Participants will gain a better understanding of the resources available to those who experience gender-based violence.
