Reunion 2011 has begun!
3 June 2011 Reunion 2011 has begun!
On Friday morning, even the weather in Geneva seemed to be celebrating the arrival of alums on campus for Reunion 2011. Gathering from all corners of the country Hobart alumni and William Smith alumnae started to convene in the L. Thomas Melly Academic Center atrium for registration.
I havent seen most of my classmates in 50 years! Im looking forward to meeting with them, said Fred Crofts 61, who drove from Moneta, Va. to celebrate his 50th reunion. As a student, Crofts was a soccer player and a member of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity. Back in the day, we walked everywhere in Geneva and around campus things have changed, there are more buildings, but it feels very familiar.
Greeted by members of Alumni House, visitors signing in at registration were given all they needed to navigate a jam-packed weekend on campus. Along with a schedule of the weekends events and tickets to the numerous meals on the Quad, alums were able to take a moment to relax, enjoy a cup of coffee and a muffin while simply taking in the familiar surroundings.
It still feels like home! said Richard Sliski 66 of Syracuse, N.Y., who will be meeting with his classmates for their 45th reunion.
Following registration, alums will have a day filled with opportunities to reconnect with friends and the HWS campus. Whether they choose to embark on the cycling adventure Tour de Finger Lakes, or set sail aboard the William Scandling to take in the splendor of Seneca Lake in the sun, there is no shortage of activities at Reunion 2011. The afternoon also brings with it a welcome luncheon, symposia taught by faculty members and alumson topics ranging from healthcare to the economy, and happy hour at the Oaks Tent for those who wish to revive the spirit of the gone, but not forgotten, favorite haunt of many generations.
What a beautiful day on campus! exclaimed Robin MacGregor Parsons 81, who registered with longtime friend and classmate Nicole Angelini 81. The two had dinner the night before with fellow alums also returning to campus. It was like automatic regression. Even after 30 years, it was the just same, we just snapped right back into being at Hobart and William Smith.
