The women who launched and led the councils forerunner, the Interagency Council on Women, have all spoken on the Hobart and William Smith campus.
As the New York Times reported this month, the new White House Gender Policy Council will influence and collaborate with every agency across government, working on all of the issues that touch American lives, most notablywomenslives, such as national security, health care and economics.
The council is a revived and reimagined version of the Interagency Council on Women, formed during the Clinton administration. The councils work at that time was driven by former First Lady Hillary Clinton and her then-chief of staff Melanne Verveer, later U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Womens Issues; former Secretary of State and Elizabeth Blackwell recipient Madeleine Albright and former Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala, who chaired the interagency council.
All four women were guests on campus, part of the Presidents Forum Series.
