28 September 2026 Emily Cain ’27 Launches Her Career at Bank of America
An internship with Bank of America gave Cain a firsthand look at life in New York City and her future career.
This summer, Emily Cain ’27 traded the Hobart and William Smith campus for fast-paced New York City and an internship with Bank of America’s Global Payments Solutions and Global Commercial Sales team.
The experience culminated in a full-time job offer to return as a treasury sales analyst after graduation next year.
Cain says the internship gave her a chance to apply the analytical and financial skills she developed as an economics major and member of the HWS Finance Society. As a treasury sales analyst next year, Cain will manage client relationships, conduct industry research, draft proposals and identify opportunities to grow the bank’s treasury products and services.
The Fairport native says her experience as captain of the HWS Alpine Ski Team and an athletic study mentor helped her develop the leadership, communication and time management skills she needed this summer — and the courage.
“I’d never lived in a city before or experienced that kind of lifestyle,” Cain says. “Most of my friends went abroad to Europe, and I felt like I went abroad to Manhattan. It was completely out of my comfort zone and I loved it.”
Cain is following the path of two alumni who helped connect her with the opportunity and supported her along the way. Director, CashPro Product Manager at Bank of America Kiersten Hamilton ’12 and Bank of America Treasury Sales Officer Christina Mitrow ’22, were student athletes, like Cain, and worked as Bank of America interns the summer before joining the company fulltime after graduation.
Associate Director of Career Services Shayne Feinberg was likewise instrumental in the process.
“I am so grateful for the guidance and connections that helped me pursue this opportunity and make the transition from the classroom to a major financial institution as seamless as it could be,” Cain says.
“I never imagined when I started my internship that I’d have the opportunity to welcome the CEO of Bank of America to HWS,” Cain says. “I’m honored to welcome Brian Moynihan to campus and share a little bit of the community that prepared me for my summer.”
