As a nearly 20 year veteran of the investment banking industry, Craig Stine 81 knows how getting a jump on the competition and an extra push can make all the difference. Recently, hes been sharing that drive with the HWS community in significant ways.

Stine has returned to campus twice for Professionals in Residence lectures, sharing his years of expertise in the field and coaching students individually and in group sessions on the realities of banking. He has also participated in the Salisbury Center for Career Services Wall Street Experience, in which students get an insiders look at the financial industry and advice from seasoned pros, like Stine.

My participation in these events is a general acknowledgement that alums can be helpful in sharing opportunities and insights with students, Stine says. I think its an obligation. Its interesting to reconnect with students, seeing them thrive. Its nice to be able to help folks who need that insight to get over the goal line.

But Stines support of HWS students is not limited to these resources alone; Stine recently endowed a scholarship fund in economics, featuring an award granted to a Hobart or William Smith economics student in his or her third year with a GPA of 3.5 or higher that will help fund the cost of tuition, room and board.

He says that in targeting students pursuing degrees in economics, he is acknowledging the common DNA between them.

Ive interviewed and worked with many HWS economics undergrads and Ive really enjoyed it, says Stine. Ive been blessed and wanted to ease the burden for students. If I could be of help, I wanted to.

Currently, Stine is co-head of investment banking for Citadel Securities. Prior to joining Citadel in 2009, Stine spent nearly 18 years with Citi (legacy Salomon Brothers), most recently as co-head of the North American Financial Institutions Group and head of Diversified Financials & Banks. He began his career with PNC Financial Group in Philadelphia. An economics major, Stine was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and went on to earn an MBA from Temple University in Philadelphia.
