Reunion Has Begun!
6 June 2008 Reunion Has Begun!
As the temperature climbed above 90 degrees on Friday morning, there was one place where alumni and alumnae knew they could meet old friends while beating the heat: Reunion Headquarters in the air-conditioned L. Thomas Melly Academic Center atrium. Im glad to be back on campus for my 65th Reunion, said Harvey Moral 43, who cooled his heels in the atrium after a long trip from Minnesota. I may be the only one from my class here this whole weekend, but this year means something to me65 years! At the check-in point, returning alums used the Colleges award-winning arrival tracking system to confirm their classmates registrations, shared coffee and signed up for weekend activities.
We never got to go to Rose Hill Mansion as students, and after more than 40 years, Ill finally get to take the tour, said Beverly Goode 63, who was sharing her 45th Reunion with husband Loomis Goode 63. Were really looking forward to seeing all of our old friends and all of the changes around campus. After registering, Reunion attendees shared good times with old friends during a lakeside golf outing, helped assess the water quality of Seneca Lake aboard the Colleges floating research vessel and got physical, participating in the Tour de Finger Lakes bike tour and climbing to the top of St. Marks Tower to enjoy the view.
Getting reacquainted with campus was high on the list of activities for many returning alums. Campus tours and special Heritage of Tree tours were running continuously throughout the morning and many alumni and alumnae were in attendance for the Welcome Luncheon, where Director of Admissions John Young offered insights on the incoming Classes of 2012 and discussed the Colleges marketing strategies for attracting students from around the globe. When I graduated 25 years ago, they were just starting to build the Scandling Campus Center, said Joe Tripp 83. Its so exciting to return to campus while theres construction going on in the building. Its like nothing has changed at all!
