Fundamentally a juxtaposition of hand and machine, Process’ dovetailing allegories interplay throughout six designated regions. Drafted with a .5 mm mechanical pencil over 700 hours in the winter of 2007, the commentary reacts against a hyper-digitalization of the arts at the onset of the 21st century - a time in which technological convenience and ease of use are largely responsible for an increasingly vulgarized contemporary aesthetic/ethic and the obliteration of craft.

John Passafiume is a Brooklyn-based designer and illustrator specializing in hand lettering and formal aesthetics. Formerly the senior designer under Louise Fili in Manhattan, New York, he launched a private practice in the summer of 2012. In 2011 he was named a Young Gun by the Art Director’s Club of New York and a New Visual Artist by Print Magazine in the 20 Under 30 issue.

The Process
