Jack '15 Interns at EquancyNo11
26 January 2015 Jack 15 Interns at EquancyNo11
Over the summer, Tatyanna Jack 15 completed an internship in New York City with EquancyNo11, a brand strategy and creative agency specializing in beauty, fashion and lifestyle brands. A double major in media & society and writing and rhetoric, Jack worked as a trainee in the Consumer Marketing and Branding department under Hobart alumnus Shane Samuel 13, who helped her to secure the internship.
Initially, Jack was given research related tasks, but then her role expanded to creating a brand story for a new client. This involved finding the target audience, deciding price points, stationary, copy for their pieces and the best way to create buzz around the clients label. I gained more insight into an industry that I knew very little about and it turned out to be exactly what I wanted to do in the future, she explains.
Jack credits many of her classes at HWS in helping her with the tasks at her internship. Many of my writing courses were invaluable, but I think my Intro to Media and Society course helped me because exploring media in every aspect, from films to posters to the way theyre marketed, really gave me the well rounded knowledge that would in turn help me best understand the client, she says.
Now in her senior year, Jack finds her courses continue to be relevant to her internship experience. After returning in the fall and taking Cultures of Advertising, my internship has become more valuable to me because the job itself gave me hands-on experience, but the class taught me more about the industry, how it has come to be, and effective ways to have my future ideas stand out in the world of advertising, she says.
On campus, Jack is the William Smith senior class president, a coordinator for the Race and Racism Coalition and the house manager for the Arts and Social Change theme house. She also participated in the 2015 New York City Experience program.
