Michael G. Ruiz, an engineer with the HWS Information Technology Services Department, is part of a Star Wars group collecting donations and holding a raffle to benefit the Dream Factory of Rochester, a charity dedicated to making the dreams of critically ill children come true.
The group will appear at Media Play in Rochester at the end of the month; he is also accepting donations on Monday, Oct. 31 at his office in Williams Hall.
Members of The Rebellion, Rochester's chapter of FanForce; along with members of the 501st Stormtrooper Legion: NorthEast Remnant Garrison and The Rebel Legions Echo Base, will be at Media Play on West Ridge Road in Greece for the release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith on DVD.
The celebration will begin that evening, when fans start to gather for the traditional midnight madness release at 12:01 a.m. Nov. 1. Club members will appear in costume at the store starting at 10 p.m.; visitors will be able to get free pictures taken with Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, Jedi Knights and more.
Members of The Rebellion will also host a raffle and item collection to benefit The Dream Factory of Rochester. The raffle prize will be an assortment of Star Wars merchandise; tickets are $1 each. Items on The Dream Factorys wish list include art supplies, travel-sized games, puzzle books and single-use cameras, and donations of any of those are welcome. The Rebellion will also be hosting a costume contest and trivia contest.
