GENEVA, N.Y. The William Smith College tennis team won the A flight doubles in the 2014 Mary Hosking Invitational held at the HWS Tennis Center and the indoor courts at Bristol Field House this weekend.SophomoresHannah MoreandKatarina Kostovicteamed up to defeat Geneseos Cat Crummey and Marylen Santos 8-5 in the championship match. More and Kostovic took an early four games to one lead over the second seeded Knights duo. Crummey and Santos won the next two games to make it four to three. Despite failing to convert three match points with a 7-4 lead, More and Kostovic rebounded to take the 13th game and the match.More and Kostovic started their tournament Saturday afternoon winning their first round match 8-6. In the quarterfinals, they knocked off the top seeded pair of Morgan McNeal and Elkie Vandenbeemt 8-5. More and Kostovic continued Saturdays success in their semifinal match dispatching their opponents 8-5.William Smith was also represented by sophomoreAnnie Vendittiand first-yearMichaelann Dentonin the A Flight doubles. Venditti and Denton made it to the semifinals before losing to Crummey and Santos 8-2. The Heron duo started off by dispatching their first round and quarterfinals opponents by the score of 8-4.St. Lawrence had the most success in singles competition with one representative from the school in each of the championship contests. The A Flight pitted St. Lawrence teammates Vandenbeemt and Olivia Arroyo against each other with Vandenbeemt emerging victorious 8-3. In B Flight, St. Lawrences McNeal dropped a 9-8 tiebreak to Rochesters Cara Genbauffe. Geneseos Mai Hashimoto defeated St. Lawrences Hallie Young 8-2 to capture the C Flight. In D flight, Hashimotos teammate Anika Pornpitaksuk faced yet another Saint, Lia Petersen, with Petersen emerging victorious 8-1.In B Flight doubles, St. Lawrences Arroyo and Samantha Miller defeated Geneseos Maggie Hale and Minxuan Yuan 8-4 to capture the title.William Smith returns to action Sept. 27-29 when they host the ITA Northeast Regional Championships at the HWS Tennis Center.
