9 May 2014 Baccalaureate 2014

Members of the Classes of 2014 and their families are invited to celebrate commencement and to reflect on their years at the Colleges at the annual Baccalaureate ceremony on Saturday, May 17. A tradition dating to eighth-century England, the Hobart and William Smith community has practiced the ceremony for more than 180 years.

The one-hour Baccalaureate offers an opportunity for graduates and their families to reflect on the transitions that commencement brings through inspirational readings, reflections and music.

William Smith Dean and Professor of History Susanne McNally HON14 will give the Baccalaureate address, Dimensions of Lunch, and graduating seniors Amira Abdulkadir, Andrew Hellmund, Donte Taylor and Hannah Sorgi will offer brief remarks and readings. President Mark D. Gearan, Provost Titilayo Ufomata, and Hobart Dean Eugen Baer P95, P97, HON07 will also participate in the ceremony. The Colleges Chorale, under the direction of Professor of Music Bob Cowles, will sing four pieces, and the event will also feature Midlakes Brass with Jeff Stempien and Jim Trowbridge P10.

Baccalaureate will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Church, located at 520 South Main Street. Due to limited parking, guests are asked to walk to the church if able.
