6 May 2014 Rodrguez-Mansilla Named to SRBHP Board
Assistant Professor of Spanish and Hispanic Studies Fernando Rodrguez-Mansilla has been named to the board of directors of the Society for Renaissance and Baroque Hispanic Poetry (SRBHP).
This society bi-annually publishes Calope, a critical journal of poetry of Spain and the Americas during the Renaissance, Baroque and Colonial periods. Rodrguez-Mansilla was nominated for the board appointment during the most recent SRBHP conference held at University of Virginia at Charlottesville.
I am very excited and willing to serve the Society for Renaissance and Baroque Hispanic Poetry,Rodrguez-Mansillasays. This recognition from my fellow colleagues in the profession is a high incentive to keep working hard on my research and, at the same time, to contribute with ideas and initiatives to improve the Society.
This new position,Rodrguez-Mansillasays, would encourage his work at HWS in two aspects. Firstly, he plans to engage more of his students in Early Modern Spanish poetry.
My role is to introduce and attract them to the language, the ideology and the style of that age, which is the foundation of the modern Hispanic literature and culture, saysRodrguez-Mansilla, who joined the HWS faculty in 2010.
As a scholar, he plans to keep a more active agenda of research and conference participation, since now he also represents Hobart and William Smith Colleges academic and service values in the SRBHP board of directors.
Rodrguez-Mansilla has had his works published in the Calope. Since his graduate school years in the University of Navarra, Spain, two of his articles have been published in the journal: Maravilla yself-fashioning: el romance A don Juan de Espina de Alonso de Castillo Solrzano and El otro canon: lafbula de Polifemoburlesca de Alonso de Castillo Solrzano.
