Pride Alliance Lavender Gayla
30 April 2014 Pride Alliance Lavender Gayla
Featuring student performances and reflections from the academic year, the second annual Lavender Gayla will be held on Friday, May 2. Hosted by the HWS Pride Alliance, the Gayla is a year-end semiformal dinner bringing together members of the HWS community to recognize the work of Pride over the past year.
The Gayla will take place at 6 p.m. in the Vandervort Room of the Scandling Campus Center. Guests not formally invited to the dinner are encouraged to attend. A small fee will be charged at the door.
The Lavender Gayla is Prides end-of-the-year event and an opportunity for us to come together as a campus community and celebrate Prides successes, says HWS Pride Alliance President Kelly Wendt 14.
Wendt says the dinner is an exciting occasion for all those involved, providing the perfect opportunity to gather together at years end. In addition, seniors attending the event will get special recognition with the Lavender Graduation ceremony.
This year, we will also be doing Prides first-ever Lavender Graduation as part of the Gayla, as a way to celebrate the seniors who are leaving, Wendt says, who also serves as a Residential Assistant, Budget Allocation Committee member and the Alternate Chairwoman of the William Smith Judicial Board.
The Lavender Gayla is a great opportunity for members of the LGBTQIA community and their allies to come together for a nice meal and night of performances and good conversations to celebrate Pride Alliances successful year, says Pride Alliance Treasurer Virginia DeWees 16.
