Members of the HWS and local community are gathering to celebrate and raise money for Happiness House, a nonprofit that offers programs and services for children and adults with disabilities, and their families in Ontario, Seneca, Yates and Wayne Counties.
Theyll be doing so during the annual Happiness House Charity Dinner, which will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 in Vandervort Room of the Scandling Campus Center. All proceeds from the dinner will be donated directly to the Happiness House of Geneva.
This is a fantastic organization, says Nathaniel Burgess 14, one of the event co-organizers. The money stays right here in the local community and the organization is really dedicated to serving those within the area. Plus it is a fantastic evening and a delicious meal that Executive Chef Benidito Gallinaro has planned and every year he has always created a delicious spread.
Nicole Towndrow 14, who also co-organizes the Charity Dinner, says she was especially compelled by the idea of donating the profits of the dinner to Happiness House.
A lot of times students get so caught up in their school work and personal obligations that its easy to forget where we are and how lucky we are that we have the opportunity to be here, as others dont have the same opportunities, she says. Its important for students and faculty of HWS to come together to give back to the community that has given us so much.
This is the third year that Burgess and Towndrow have planned the Happiness House dinner. Burgess became involved through his friend, Jordan Cushman 12, who introduced the idea for the charity dinner. Towndrow, who serves as the student-marketing director on the student marketing team, got involved through her work on the Sodexo catering team.
At the dinner, Italian-style food will be served. Tickets are $15 for faculty, staff, and community members, and $10 for students and children under 12. Advance reservations should be made at the Concierge Desk outside of SAGA (cash or snack money only) Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
