The William Smith College golf team competed in the Jack Leaman Invitational hosted by Amherst College over the Easter weekend. Played at Hickory Ridge Golf Club, Saturdays opening round featured a par 74, 5,895-yard layout while Sundays finishing round played at a par 72 for 5,880 yards.
First-year Madeline Dietz and junior Kara Capstraw tied for the team lead, placing 53rd out of 87 golfers. Dietz was consistent, scoring 92 in both rounds, while Capstraw overcame a 96 on Saturday with an 88 in the final round. Capstraws closing 18 was her best round of the season and the third best by a Heron this season. First-year Whitney Reynolds and junior Katherine Pope completed William Smiths team score.
The Herons logged a team score of 387 on Saturday, the squads third best one day total of the season, and a 389 on Sunday, the fifth best score of the season. William Smith was 12th out of 15 teams in the final standings. Nationally ranked Williams and Ithaca tied for team title with the No. 7 Bombers prevailing over the No. 5 Ephs on a tiebreaker.
Williams Georgina Salant earned individual medalist honors after finishing three over through 36 holes. Ithacas Sharon Li was second, four strokes back.
William Smith will close out its spring season at the Liberty League Championship, April 26 and April 27 in Bernardston, Mass.
