Colleges Top in Forbes Index
6 May 2014 Colleges Top in Forbes Index
Hobart and William Smith Colleges were recently included in Forbes magazines list of The 50 Top ROI Colleges 2014: The Grateful Grads Index. The index uses the dollar amount of private donations to an institution per student over a 10-year period to measure a schools value. HWS was ranked 84 on the index, which also took into account alum participation rates, or percentage of graduates who donate to their alma mater each year, as strong indicators of return on investment (ROI). The index cited that nearly one third of HWS alums donate to the Colleges annually.
The Grateful Grads Index is based on the premise that the institutions with the most value are those whose alums feel compelled to give back to the schools that contributed to their success. Data from the National Center for Education Statistics and the Council for Aid to Education was used to compile the list.
In 2013, Forbes included Hobart and William Smith on its list of Americas Top Colleges. Previously, SmartMoney named HWS an exceptional investment. The publication listed the Colleges as 43rd in its ranking of private Colleges that Help Grads Get Top Salaries.
Among other recent accolades, the Colleges have been ranked 61 in the National Liberal Arts Colleges category in the 2013 U.S. News & World Report rankings, and Princeton Reviews 2014 edition of The Best 378 Colleges named HWS among the countrys best institutions for undergraduate education. The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2014 noted HWS is a place where students are rewarded with small classes, caring faculty, and a place where tradition still matters.
