The LGBT Studies Program and the Womens Studies Program are co-hosting a Queer Film Series this semester to provide the campus community the opportunity to view the remarkable old and new films being watched and discussed in select courses.

Visiting Assistant Professor of LGBT Studies Cael Keegan and Assistant Professor of Womens Studies Michelle Martin-Baron organized the Queer Film Series, which features films that they are screening in each of their classes. The series will consist of films from Keegans LGBT 101 Intro to LGBT Studies, LGBT 204 Bodies of Difference, and LGBT 301 Queer Geographies and Migrations classes, as well as Martin-Barons WMST 218 Queer Representation in Theater and Film class.

Its an exciting moment for thinking about queer representation; queer characters on television are starting to become more commonplace, major films have been made with explicitly queer content, and queer visibility is at an all-time high, explains Martin-Baron. Because of this synchronicity, Cael and I are opening up our class screenings to the HWS community.

Films will be shown in the Albright Auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. The first, which took place on Monday, Feb. 3, is The Childrens Hour, starred Audrey Hepburn, Shirley MacLaine and James Garner. Set in a private school for girls in New England, the story centers around the two founders of the school and events set in motion once a student accuses them of being lesbians.

May 5: The Living End and Otto, or Up with Dead People
