3 January 2014 Free Books for Geneva's Kids

At 10 different locations around Geneva, the Geneva Reads organization is steadily increasing access to literature for children through the Red Book Shelf program. Through this initiative, volunteers from the Geneva and Hobart and William Smith Colleges communities fill bookshelves with gently used books, which are then available for children to take home, free of charge.

In the past year, the Red Book Shelf program has distributed 1,700 books to Genevas children through the efforts of Deb Brewer, a retired elementary school teacher, and Jess Steketee 13 and Jessica Lynn 14, civic leaders for literacy through the Colleges Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CCESL).

The shelves are at the following locations:
The United Methodist Church of Geneva
West Street Elementary School
North Street Elementary School
Geneva School District Offices (located at North Street School)
The Geneva Community Center
Finger Lakes Medical Associates
The Child and Family Resource Center
Geneva Housing Authority
The Boys & Girls Club of Geneva, at Goodman Street
Geneva Community Health

If you have any questions or would like more information please contact Jeremy Wattles, assistant director of CCESL at serve@hws.edu or 315-781-3825.
