Margaret Weitekamp, assistant professor of women's studies, delivered an invited talk titled, What Can We Learn From 'Astronauttes'?: Interpreting the History of the Lovelace Women in Space Program, 1959-1963, on Wednesday, March 13, in a lecture series sponsored by the science, technology, and society department at the Pennsylvania State University. Her talk discussed the evolving implications of a history of an early female astronaut testing program for understanding gendered Cold War politics, aerospace examinations of women's bodies, and the birth of the Women's Liberation Movement in the United States.
