Two Sailors to Compete in Championship
6 November 2013 Two Sailors to Compete in Championship
William Smith College seniors Arielle deLisser and Brooke Lyon will represent the Colleges sailing team in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Womens Singlehanded National Championship in Providence, R.I., this weekend, Nov. 8-10.
The event will be co-hosted by Salve Regina University and Brown University. Eighteen women from across the country have qualified for the event.
This weekend will be the third time deLisser has competed in the singlehanded championship regatta. In 2011, she finished sixth of 18. As a first-year, deLisser logged the Herons best finish since 1999, taking third place.
This year, both deLisser and Lyon earned spots in the championship field based on their finishes in the Faye Bennet Trophy in Annapolis, Md., back on Sept. 28-29. The top four finishers at the event earned spots in the national championship. deLisser captured the conference title, earning the 15th conference championship for the HWS sailing program. Lyon posted a fourth place finish.
Its the fifth time William Smith sailors have competed in the singlehanded national championships dating back to 1999.
