Representatives from Markit, a global financial information services company, will be on campus on Thursday, Oct. 24, to deliver a student-focused presentation, A Career in Financial Services. The talk will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Trinity Hall 305 as part of the Colleges Professionals in Residence speaker series.

Featuring Markits chief operating officer and HWS Trustee Calvin R. Chip Carver Jr. 81, the upcoming presentation also will include remarks from Elaine Rabkin, head of recruitment at Markit, as well as recent HWS graduates, Shaun Viguerie 12 and Derek Akner 12. Viguerie completed an internship at Markits office in New York before his senior year atHWS and is now a developing associate for the company. Akner is currentlya marketing associate for Markit.

The Professionals in Residence series is open to all majors and provides students with the opportunity to gain advice and perspective on various professional industries.

Markit, which has offered internships to current students and has hired more than a dozen alums, employsabout 3,000 people worldwide, with offices in London, Chicago, and New York. The company provides independent data, valuations and trade processing in order to enhance transparency, reduce risk and improve operational efficiency across all asset classes. Its client base includes several significant institutional participants in the financial marketplace. The company has won numerous awards for its investment in product innovation and technology development.

A loyal alumnus, Carver frequently visits campus to lead discussions with students. As a member of the HWS Board of Trustees, he has served on the Financial Affairs Committee, as well as the Audit and Investment Committees. In honor of his father, Carver and his wife Anne DeLaney established the HWSCalvin R. Carver Sr. Lecture and Student Support Endowment.

Carver received his B.A. in economics from Hobart and then went on to earn an M.F.A. from New York University. Before joining Markit, he was chief executive officer of SwapsWire and managing director of Goldman-Sachs.
