9 October 2013 Sankofa Pool Tournament

Sankofa, the Black Student Union, hosted a pool tournament at the Intercultural Affairs House last week, awarding prizes to winners on Friday, Oct. 4. There were 23 participants in this, the events second year.

We decided to do it again because we noticed how successful it was last year, explains Sankofa member Scarlyn Gutierrez 16. Playing pool is a fun way to interact with others regardless of ones race, ethnicity and age.

The purpose of the event was to give students the opportunity to meet new people as well as enjoy the tournament with friends and acquaintances.

The goal was to bring different people together that share a common hobby of playing pool. Hopefully small events like this will reach out to a broader audience who will end up realizing that race is not a barrier when you are having fun, says Gutierrez.
