19 March 2002 Jemison 99 Helped Coordinate Social Norms Project
The number of teens who tried smoking significantly decreased in several western Montana counties after an eight month awareness campaign according to a research brief just released by the Montana Social Norms Project, a project of Montana State University's Health and Human Development Department. Erin Jemison WS'99 is an education and research coordinator, and coordinated this project. The message in this campaign was MOST of Us, 70% of Montana teens, are tobacco free, based on the social norms approach pioneered by H. Wesley Perkins, professor of sociology, and David Craig, professor of chemistry.
