Professor of Political Science Jodi Dean recently presented the opening plenary lecture at the Neoliberalism, Crisis and the World System conference held at the University of York, United Kingdom. Dean joined speakers from the U.K., Europe and North America. Approximately 150 people attended the event. The conference was funded by the British Academy, University of Yorks Pump Priming Fund and Yorks Centre for Modern Studies.
Organizers said they wanted to use the funds we had won to host a free event that would allow academics and students from across a range of disciplines, as well as anyone else interested in the topics of debate, to help us thinking collaboratively about what it is to live and work in a neoliberal age one that confusingly was declared over at a certain moment of crisis that has never marked an end-point.

She earned a B.A. from Princeton University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University. She is a past recipient of the faculty award for scholarship. Dean is the author of seven books, including Blog Theory and Democracy and Other Neoliberal Fantasies (Duke 2009).
