3 July 2013 Wroblewski 13 Wins Gold ADDY

The promotional video for One Bead, a nonprofit organization created by Sara Wroblewski 13 to raise money for a school in Kenya, was recently awarded a Student Gold ADDY Award at the national student advertising competition in Phoenix, Ariz. The video was made by Sarah Beth Hulver, a motion media design student at Savannah College of Art and Design, who also designed the One Bead logo and has worked closely with the organization as their promotional artist.

It was really exciting and I know it meant a ton to Sarah, Wroblewski says. Were really lucky and appreciative to have someone so good make a video for us. The fact that the video won a national ADDY makes it that much more apparent that our relationship with Sarah is so important and special.

The video is a one minute, stop-motion promotional ad forthe organization, featuring a voice over narration from Wroblewski that explains the goal and purpose of One Bead to fund expensive, but necessary projects to improve education in Kenya through the sale of $12 glass beads. Its a great 30-second pitch to people, Wroblewski says. Its really helped determine our style and how we want to come across to our customers.

Last year at HWS, as One Bead initiallywent from adream to a reality, Wroblewskipresented her ideaduring The Pitch,a competition for student entrepreneurs thats facilitated by the Colleges Centennial Center for Leadership.Wroblewski won the contest, landing a $10,000 grant to help advance her plans for One Bead. The funds helped Wroblewski to register One Bead as a 501(c)3 nonprofit.

Just one year later, and One Bead has raised thousands of dollars and the promotional video isaccelerating the cause.

Hulver originally made the video for a class project, but recalls that it just kind of went crazy. Before being entered into the national ADDY competition, the video won a SCADDY Gold and Judges Choice Award in February 2013 at the Savannah College of Art and Designs annual competition to honor student achievement in the advertising arts and related creative disciplines. SCADDY Gold winners are automatically submitted to the regional level of the ADDY competition, where Hulvers video beat out 160 other student videos to win a District 7 Gold and Best of Show Award.

It gets me excited for the future because it shows that all of the work I did actually pays off, Hulver says.

After the regional competition, the video advanced to the national competition, which occurred in conjunction with ADMERICA! 2013, the American Advertising Federations national conference on advertising. Receiving close to 50,000 entries annually, the competition is the industrys largest competitive competition.

I had no idea it would win an award, but I really hope that Saras One Bead is more successful from having this commercial out for everyone to see, Hulver says. It gets me excited because this is what I want to do with my career, so hopefully it will open up a few doors.

Wroblewski hopes that it will do the same for One Bead, which is currently working on building a community center and plans to construct a library in Kenya this October with the money raised through the organization: People dont realize with an organization like this how important a theme and attracting customers is, Wroblewski says. Sarahs style is really the style of our whole foundation.

Hulver, who is interning with a motion graphics studio in New York City over the summer, plans to continue working with One Bead as they grow and develop. Its sort of an ongoing thing, she says. But I would love to continue working with Sara and One Bead in the future!
