Hobart and William Smith Board of Trustees member Tom Bozzuto 68 and alum Mitchell Schear 80 were both featured on the cover of a recent issue of BizNow, Washington, D.C., edition. Bozzuto was profiled in BizNow, which has been called the largest commercial real estate publication in the United States, as a speaker at the industrys annual Multifamily Summit. The publications article on Schear announced he was going to interview the recipient of this years prestigious Bizzy award at the same summit.
Since its founding in 1988, Bozzuto has led the Bozzuto Group, which builds, manages, and develops apartments, condominiums and single-family homes. He is the recipient of the Freddie Mac Builder of the Year award; has been awarded the Environmental Builder of the Year by the Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association (MNCBIA); and has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Metropolitan Washingtons Building Industries: the MNCBIA and the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association.
While at HWS, Bozzuto was a member of the football team, Little Theatre, the Hobart Student Association and the Druid Society. He worked in Saga and graduated with a B.A. in English. He also holds a masters degree in metropolitan studies from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. Bozzuto has served on the HWS Board of Trustees since 1999.
Schear graduated with honors and a B.A. in individual studies. As a student, he was a student trustee, a Druid and received the Roger Frankel Award by HWS for the greatest contribution to the Hobart and William Smith community in his four years as a student.
After graduation, Schear earned an M.B.A. from George Washington University. He has served on the board of directors of several D.C. organizations, including the Founding Board and the Executive Committee of the Downtown D.C. Business Improvement District, the Anacostia Waterfront Corporation, the Economic Club of Washington and the Field School. He has also been the vice chair of the Washington Convention Center Authority, a past chair of the board of the Lowell School and a past board member of DCBIA.
