Madeleine Jacobs, executive director and CEO of the American Chemical Society, wrote about Julia James '04 in her column in the Winter 2005 issue of Chemistry, the society's newsletter.

James received an ACS Scholars Award from 2001 to 2003.

Julia began Hobart and William Smith Colleges as an English major but was hooked by her freshman chemistry course and became a chemistry major. The ACS Scholars Award helped her complete her degree and win a 2004 Rhodes Scholarship, wrote Jacobs.
