1 May 2012 Hobart Takes 2nd In Oswego Invite

The Hobart College golf team produced its third top-3 finish of the spring, finishing second at the Oswego State Spring Invitational tihs weekend. Sophomore Dillon Sass and junior Steven Dougherty led the Statesmen by placing in the top-4.

Playing the par 71 Oswego Country Club, Sass placed third in the 27-golfer field. He shot an 82 in Saturdays first round and followed that with an 81 today, finishing four strokes off the lead. Dougherty turned in twin 82s to finish one stroke back in a tie for fourth place. First-years Eric Mills (89-84) and Matt Johnson (86-89) rounded out Hobarts team score, placing ninth and 11th, respectively.

Playing as an individual, junior Sam Garivaltis produced the Statesmens best opening round with an 81. He finished the tournament tied for 15th place.

The host Lakers won the team tile by 10 strokes over Hobart. Oswegos Nick Sterling was the individual medalist, shooting a tournament best 76 on Saturday and a closing round 83 to beat Keukas Curtis Evanicki by three stokes.

This was the season finale for the Statesmen.
