Award-winning reporter and writer, Hart Seely 74, has written a semi-autobiographical book about baseball, the Yankees and a set of rules for fans called the Jujus. The Juju Rules: Or, How to Win Ballgames from Your Couch: A memoir of a Fan Obsessed was published in April by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
In this humorous fan confessional, Seely shares the 27 rules that dictate how fans can determine the outcome of a game from the comfort of their homes. Seelys new book is laugh out loud funny as it reveals the secret fan jinxes, hexes and charms that win baseball games. A longtime baseball fanatic, Seely has spent a lifetime practicing juju rules from his living room and this nostalgic book tracks his life service to a team, reminding the reader how intimate sports can be.
He is also the author of Mrs. Goose Goes to Washington: Nursery Rhymes for the Political Barnyard, co-author of 2007-11, editor of Pieces of Intelligence: The Existential Poetry of Donald H. Rumsfeld, and co-editor of O Holy Cow! The Selected Verse of Phil Rizzuto.
Other works of Seelys have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, National Lampoon, and on National Public Radio. He is now a reporter for the Syracuse Post-Standard and has been inducted into the Syracuse Press Clubs Wall of distinction, a permanent exhibit honoring journalists. Seely has won a number of national awards, including the National Childrens Express Award for Investigative Journalism, the Clarion Award for Investigative Journalism and the American Association of Sunday and Feature Editors Award for short feature writing.
Seely graduated from Hobart College with a B.A. in political science and played lacrosse while a student. He lives in Dewitt, N.Y. with his wife and three children.
