Passion Pit to Play at The Smith
23 April 2012 Passion Pit to Play at The Smith
On the last day of classes, Passion Pit will bring its electro-pop sound to close out the semester. With support from several HWS offices the group will perform at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, at the Smith Opera House.
This is going to be awesome, said Zoe Van Nostrand 14 on the events Facebook page. Many students are excited about the upcoming concert.
Opening for Passion Pit will be HWS student band, Call Security. Started in September of 2011, four of the bands five members will perform: Tucker Jennings 14 on drums, Kathryn Middleton 14 on keyboard, Michelle Poulin 15 on guitar and Ben Scheibel 14 on vocals.
Since our formation, we have played in the Battle of the Bands held in the Barn this past October, as well as a closed event at The Chi Phi Fraternity last month, says Scheibel. We are very excited to open for Passion Pit, as well as performing at BloomFest this Friday.
The Concert Advisory Council (CAC) narrowed down the list of 100+ possible acts to four that they thought would most appeal to HWS students, explains Student Activities Program Assistant Joanna Vinick 11. A survey was then sent out to students. Thanks to the more than 700 HWS students who responded, the four got narrowed down to Passion Pit who brought in, by far, the most votes.
The five member band is comprised of vocalist Angelakos, guitarist Ian Hultquist, keyboardist Ayad Al Adhamy, bassist Jeff Apruzzese and drummer Nathan Donmoyer. Started in 2007 as a one man multi-track laptop project in Michael Angelakos Emerson College dorm room, the band has since opened for high profile bands such as Death Cab for Cutie, Girl Talk, the Killers and Muse. In addition to mentions in Rolling Stone, the band has landed high-profile slots on a series of international festivals including Australias Big Day Out and the UKs Glastonbury Festival as well as North American festivals including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Coachella.
One of Angelakos initial compositions, titled Sleepyhead, resonated with music fans and the track reached No. 9 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart in 2009. Since the groups debut EP, Chunk of Change, the bands first full-length studio album, Manners, was released in 2009.
Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the College Store, online at http://collegestore.hws.edu/MerchList.aspx?ID=12578, outside of Saga Dining Hall and at The Smith Opera House at 82 Seneca Street. Tickets are $15 for HWS students and $30 for guests.
