Faraone '01 Publishes on Occupy Movement
3 April 2012 Faraone 01 Publishes on Occupy Movement
Award-winning political journalist Chris Faraone 01, a staff writer for The Boston Phoenix, recently released his book titled 99 Nights with the 99 Percent: Dispatches from the First Three Months of the Occupy Revolution.
My book is not analytical, notes Faraone in an interview with Bostons Weekly Dig, where he formerly served as a staff writer. Its more like a time capsule of the first three months. No matter what happens after, from here on in, or what happened before the encampment era, those couple of months, what happened there will always be the same. I think that the way people look back on it will change.
Since news of the books publication was revealed, Faraones story has been covered by several media outlets, including The Boston Globe and Columbia Journalism Review and more.
The 224-page book includes recently-completed, unpublished reporting, along with features Faraone published in the Phoenix, from Occupy camps during the first three months of the movement from Miami to Seattle.
The book features additional reporting on Occupy Los Angeles, the 2012 New Hampshire GOP Primary and the hacker group known as Anonymous and its war on Scientology. The book also includes photographs and illustrations, and a series of haikus Faraone wrote and calls Occupaikus.
The book is self-published by Faraone in order to maintain control over the formatting of the book.
Faraone credits Professor of Public Policy Studies and Political Science Craig Rimmerman with helping him to think politically, a skill which has come in handy as a political journalist. I was a psych major who took one of Rimmermans classes as an elective senior year, explains Faraone. The following summer I began to work on progressive campaigns in New York City largely the result of reading Rimmermans book The New Citizenship.
Faroane has reported forThe Source,Spin, theBoston Herald, theWeekly Digand Boston Magazine. He joined thePhoenixstaff four years ago. Since 2009, he has received accolades and awards from the Association of Alternative News Media and the New England Newspaper & Press Association for his investigative and news reporting.
