19 March 2012 Herons Breeze to Win Over Sioux Falls

The William Smith College tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over the University of Sioux Falls this afternoon. It was the first match of the Herons spring break trip.

Senior Joanie Hilton and junior Kiara Ocasio teamed up for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Seniors Casey Kennedy and Katie Serock registered an 8-1 win at No. 2. The Herons won by default at the No. 3 doubles spot.

In singles, Kennedy notched her second win of the day, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1. Ocasio also posted a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 2. Hilton breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3, and junior Hallsey Leighton shut out her Sioux Falls opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Sophomore Casey Nicoletti recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5, and William Smith earned another win by default at the No. 6 spot.

The Herons will be back in action tomorrow, March 20, when they take on Hamline at 1:30 p.m.
