5 March 2012 HWS Sailing Takes 8th in Two Regattas
The Hobart and William Smith sailing team took eighth place in the Graham Hall Team Race, and William Smith sailors captured eighth place at the Charleston Womens Regatta over the weekend.
The HWS sailing team is ranked fourth in the nation in the most recent ICSA College Sailing Rankings.
In Annapolis, Md., HWS posted a 10-12 record to finish eighth out of 16 teams in the Graham Hall Team Race. SeniorAusten Anderson, seniorSam Blouin, and juniorJohn Norfleetcompeted as skippers. JuniorBridget Nannig, juniorCatherine Pelo, seniorChris Klevan, sophomoreJulia Oak, juniorJohnny Davenportand juniorKathryn Moloneymade up the crew.
HWS came out of the round robin with a 9-6 record which put them in seventh place. HWS logged wins over Charleston, Wisconsin, Eckerd, N.Y. Maritime, Clemson, Old Dominion, Cornell, Navy and Washington College. The top 8 teams advanced to the gold races. HWS recorded a 1-6 record in the gold round, picking up a win over Brown, which put them in eighth place overall.
At the Charleston Womens Regatta in Charleston, S.C., sophomores Arielle de Lisser and Jane Rewclaimed fourth place in the A Division. The duo notched four finishes in the top six. In the B Division, first-yearLiana Folger, sophomoreMorgan Gouldand sophomore Adele Huffinefinished eighth and recorded one first place finish.
HWS will be back in action March 10-11 when it competes in St. Marys Md., at the St. Marys Team Race. William Smith sailors will also be in action this weekend in Annapolis, Md., at the Navy Spring Womens Race.
