5 December 2011 Herons in Liberty League Championships

Sophomore Lia Duffy was William Smiths top performer on the second day of the Liberty League Swimming & Diving Championships. She had a hand in all four of the Herons top five finishes.

Duffy, who finished third in the 50-yard freestyle yesterday, matched that placing in the 100 free today, turning in a time of 54.53. She also placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke, logging a time of 1:10.4.

William Smiths 200 medley relay and 400 free relay both finished fourth. The medley relay lineup included Mimi Mahoney, Duffy, Samantha Burnett, and Amanda Woods, logging a time of 1:57.21. The free relay produced a time of 3:49.19 thanks to the efforts of Duffy, Burnett, Christine Rhoads, and Mahoney.

Additionally, Rhoads finished eighth with a time of 2:03.21 in the 200 free.

William Smith finished sixth in the nine-team field. Rochester won the team title over second place Rensselaer. St. Lawrence, Union and Vassar were third through fifth, respectively. The Herons bested Skidmore, RIT and Clarkson.

William Smith wont return to the pool for a meet until the New Year. The Herons will compete in the Rensselaer Invitational on Jan. 21.
