Four students have been accepted to participate in the Simon School of Business Early Leader Case Competition, held at the University of Rochester this weekend, Nov. 11 and 12. The event brings together undergraduate students from around the world to compete in a business case competition. Adam Green 12, Yaoxin Liu 12, Geoffrey Rosen 12, and Ruiting Brezeck Wang 14 join the competition this year.
The cases are designed to simulate the types of decisions business leaders regularly face. Last years competition featured a case study for the Target Corporation; participants were asked to generate ideas that would increase the companys revenue, diversify its clients, or increase the frequency with which shoppers visit Target. Upon arrival, students are divided into groups of five members to work on the project, and are given only 22 hours to deliberate and create a presentation. Final presentations are made to a panel of judges consisting of professors and MBA students from the Simon School. Teams compete for a sharedcash prize with additional awards for runner-up teams.
Seniors Sean Breen, David Fay and Sarah Wilson took part in last years competition and it was partly due to their positive experience that Assistant Professor of Economics and Pre-Business Advisor Warren Hamilton encouraged students interested in business to apply this year.
I found the actual presentation part of the competition an invaluable practice for what I will hopefully be doing later in life, said Breen, who spent this summer interning at HSBC, one of the largest banking and financial services organizations in the world.
Rosen has been on Deans List two consecutive years.
Green is a member of the rowing team and has been on Deans List. He participated in the semester in Avignon, France in the spring of 2010.
Liu has been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Chimera and has been awarded the Irving Bentsen Prize in Mathematics and Computer Science. He also earned the First Year Academic Achievement Award and has been on Deans List.
Wang earned the First Year Academic Achievement Award, has been named to Deans List and is a member of Orange Key.
