14 October 2011 Still Time to Sign Up for Intramurals

At Hobart and William Smith Colleges, no player is left on the sidelines. This falls turnout of intramural participants proves the program to be a successful outlet for students wanting to be involved in athletics. Intramural sports consist only of members of the HWS student body, and players only need knowledge of the rules of the game to participate.

Cam Mathieu 14 and Alex Butti 12 are co-coordinators of the intramural soccer team this fall. While intramural sports can be single-gender or co-ed, this years recreational soccer team is co-ed, with a turnout of 76 males and 35 females Mathieu and Butti run the referee schedule and keep scores of the game, logging these onto the online website later.

I am thankful for intramural soccer as it allows me to enjoy the game of soccer in a low-pressure atmosphere with friends and teammates I wouldnt normally be able to share the pitch with, says Jared Ravreby 12. Intramural sports create a friendly and casual environment.

This fall, there are numerous intramural sports offered: flag football, soccer, golf, wiffle ball, volleyball, tennis, wallyball, indoor soccer, and 33 basketball. While the deadlines to sign up for flag football, soccer, and golf are past, there is still time to join a team for the other fall sports, with deadlines throughout October and November. The next sign-up deadline is for the Wiffle Ball tournament. Create a team and sign up by Friday, Oct. 14, at noon. Students can complete an entry form online.
