Stevens '12 to Create Web Content
10 May 2011 Stevens 12 to Create Web Content
When Carrie Stevens 12 finishes her spring semester, shell jump into not one, but two summer internships. She will be working as a digital editorial intern with Fitbie.com and Fivestarbasketball.com, responsible for helping create content for the sites.
Fitbie.com provides information about exercising and eating right and also outlines programs to help readers achieve their weight and fitness goals. The website is maintained by Rodale, which Stevens explains publishes some of the best-known health and wellness lifestyle magazines, such as Mens Health, Womens Health, and Prevention.' Stevens duties over the summer will range from writing articles to editing photos to creating other multimedia elements such as podcasts or slideshows. Her work at Fivestarbasketball.com will be similar, though the site revolves around the youth basketball community rather than health and fitness.
Ive known for as long as I can remember that Ive wanted to become a journalist, Stevens says. She has also been heavily involved with athletics in the past, so combining writing and sports into one career-sports journalism-seemed like a logical move. With an interest in health and fitness as well, Stevens is hoping that her experiences over the summer can help her decide which course to pursue.
On campus, she serves as the editor-in-chief of the Herald, is a member of Womens Collective, contributes to the Monthly Visitor, and works for HWS Athletic Communications. She also studied abroad in London. A writing and rhetoric major with a double minor in the writing colleagues program and womens studies, Stevens has also been inducted as a member of Hai Timiai for her senior year.
