2 May 2011 Sailing Team Advances to Nationals

The Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team finished seventh out of 18 teams at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Coed Dinghy Western Semifinals over the weekend. Their finish earned the squad a spot in the ICSA/Gill Dinghy National Championship which will take place in Cascade Locks, Ore. on May 30 June 1. The top nine teams advanced to the national final.

Senior David Thompson and sophomore Catherine Pelo teamed up for a seventh place finish in the A Division. They placed in the top-5 in five out of 11 races. They posted a second place finish in their second race, and earned a victory in their third.

In the B Division, junior Austen Anderson and sophomore Bridget Nannig claimed eighth. The pair finished eight races in the top-10, including three top-5 finishes and one win.

William Smith sailors will be on the water May 23-26 at the ICSA Women's National Championship in Cascade Locks, Ore.
