19 June 2019 Watch the RockSat-C Rocket Launch Live

For the 2019 RockSat-C team, a years worth of hard work is about to culminate in a blast off into space.

Students and faculty mentors traveled to NASAs Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia this week to prepare for the launch of the suborbital sounding rocket that will include a payload of their design. The rocket takes offthisThursday morning.

Mentored by Associate Professor of Physics Ileana Dumitriu and Physics Lab Technician Peter Spacher Ph.D., the RockSat-C team of Shreeya Desai 21, William Elliman 20, Victoria Loshusan 20, James Truley 20 and Jasper White 20 spent the academic year researching, designing and assembling a payload that will be integrated into a sounding rocket that travels out of Earths atmosphere and collects data during flight. The students designed three subsystems to measure vibration damping, muon flux and magnetic fields of Earth at various altitudes.

RockSat-C is sponsored by NASA and the Colorado Space Grant Consortium. This is the sixth consecutive year that HWS has been selected to participate in the program; less than a dozen colleges and universities are chosen for the competition each year.

Live coverage of the launch is scheduled to begin at 5 a.m. Eastern time via the NASA-TV Wallops Ustream on Thursday, June 20. The WallopsFacebookandTwittersites will feature updates as well, and Facebook Live coverage begins at 5:15 a.m.
