12 April 2017 HWS on Wall Street

Wall_St_Experience_9Tapping into HWS expansive network of alums and parents working at some of the top financial firms in the world, the Colleges annual finance career exploration program took a select group of students to New York City for an inside look into Wall Street and the wide range of careers they can pursue within the industry.

This years NYC Finance Experience Program was the largest trip yet. Facilitated by the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, an extra day was added to the now four-day program in order to accommodate visits with more than 90 HWS alums and parents, and their colleagues, at financial giants like Bloomberg, NASDAQ, Standard & Poors, and J.P. Morgan Chase, among many others. The scope of the program was also broadened to include an insurance and commercial real estate component, highlighting other industries within the financial realm that include both analytical and quantitative careers.

By visiting HWS alums and parents in their corporate offices, students learned firsthand the types of careers available in the finance sector, says Jackie Doyle P14, P19, associate director of the Salisbury Center. This helps them narrow their focus, engage directly with hiring personnel and create valuable connections.

Wall Street0103Students also met with both senior-level alums and young alums starting their careers, as well as received valuable advice on breaking into the industry and the necessary academic steps to success. They connected with recruiters at select firms, which in past years has resulted in summer internship and even job opportunities for many participants.

Accompanying the students were Professor of Economics Tom Drennen, Vice President for Enrollment and Admissions and Dean of the Salisbury Center Bob Murphy, Assistant Director of the Salisbury Center Erin Brockway and Doyle.
