25 September 2020 STEM House Takes Top Homecoming Prize

Several student residences participated in the annual House Decorating Contest, a longstanding tradition of HWS Homecoming and Family Week and an opportunity for students to showcase pride in their alma mater.

This years winner is the STEM theme house, whose display included purple, orange, green and white streamers and balloons. House participants also wore their lab coats during the judging. In second place was Odells Unit 26 and in third place was Beta Sigma. The winners will receive prizes for their efforts.

This years theme house participants included: Writers House, Hope House, Zappler House, Stewardson House, and the Meditation & Wellness House. Several Odells Units also entered.

Five judges scored the participating houses based on spiritedness, creativity, attention to detail and representation of both Hobart and William Smith. Per tradition, houses also had to include one mystery item in their display provided by Student Activities. This year the item was an inflatable donut.

The judges included Director of the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education Brandi Ferrara, Associate Program Manager Colleen Kolb, Associate Director of Housing and OneCard Operations Jenna Konyak, Director of Admissions Alan Paynter and Sodexo Catering Director Kim Rothschild.

Kolb, Konyak and Paynter are a few of the newest members of the Colleges staff. Judging the House Decorating Contest gave them the opportunity to engage with the HWS community and to join the Homecoming and Family Week celebration.
